This Detox Berry Smoothie is made with a variety of fruits & veggies and perfect for when your body needs a detox!
For mine and JR’s honeymoon, we went to a resort in Jamaica- and I was SO excited because online it said they had a juice bar. I assumed that meant actual juice- but it wasn’t! It consisted of tons of fresh fruits and vegetables with a blender- not a juicer! The lady was amazing, she would make “juice” (aka smoothies) with mixtures of fruit and vegetables and somehow always made them taste so good! There were no recipes, you would just choose your fruits and veggies and she would work her magic!
By putting vegetables in smoothies, it does change the taste, but it became an acquired taste that I still love to this day. I have experimented with different variations and some are much better than others- it is definitely an art to learn!
This specific mixture is made up of banana, berries, lemon, spinach, cucumber, almond milk, and sweetener of choice. The cucumber flavor does come through a little bit, but it is delicious.
Adding veggies into smoothies is a great way to sneak extra veggies into your diet because lets be real- it’s hard to get a full 5-6 servings of veggies in your diet everyday! Especially greens if you don’t eat a salad at some point during the day.
If you don’t usually put veggies in your smoothies, why not?! There are so many options that are so easy to cover up! Some common bland veggies that are easy to add are:
- spinach or kale
- broccoli
- cauliflower
- carrots
- beets
By adding nut butters and a little natural sweetener, you can very easily cover up the veggie flavor if you’re not accustomed to it or if you’re wanting a smoothie packed with veggies!
I would love to know what you think!! Please share comments and pictures of how it turns out for you! Happy cooking, friends!
